Meet Tabitha

Meet Tabitha

Tabitha was diagnosed with HER2-positive, hormone receptor-negative breast cancer after discovering a lump when she was 5 and a half months postpartum. Her story is a reminder to listen to your body, seek medical advice if something doesn't feel right, and find ways to live well throughout treatment.

After finding a lump, Tabitha continued breastfeeding before having imaging once she had stopped. It was through this imaging that she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. Her experience highlights the importance of having any new breast lump or persistent change assessed promptly, even during pregnancy or after having a baby, as breastfeeding can sometimes make changes more difficult to evaluate.

While caring for her young family, Tabitha is receiving chemotherapy and HER2-targeted therapy. She also joined a research study exploring the benefits of exercise for people living with cancer. Regular movement has become an important part of her routine, helping support her wellbeing during treatment.

More about HER2-positive breast cancer

HER2-positive breast cancer is a type of breast cancer in which cancer cells produce higher-than-normal levels of the HER2 protein, causing the cancer to grow more quickly. Advances in HER2-targeted therapies have significantly improved treatment options and outcomes.

Hormone receptor-negative breast cancer means the cancer does not rely on oestrogen or progesterone to grow, so hormone therapies are not effective. Instead, treatment often includes chemotherapy combined with HER2-targeted medicines that specifically attack HER2-positive cancer cells.
